World Hostel Conference Travels to Israel

September 5, 2012 By Travel Magazine Tagged With: World Hostel Conference

Hostel industry leaders come together for the WHC ‐ first time outside of Europe and North America

The World Hostel Conference (WHC), organized by GoMio.com, is designed to bring together hostel owners and managers from around the world to discuss relevant and important topics related to the budget accommodation industry. This year’s WHC will be held in Jerusalem, Israel from November 5th to 7th, 2012 at the Menachem Begin Heritage Center – a magnificent venue overlooking the old city walls. This is the first time the World Hostel Conference will take place outside of Europe or North America.

“This year’s conference is particularly important“, said Michael Tumminia, CEO of GoMio.com. “There is a growing influx of backpackers discovering Israel and the Middle East, and this is a great opportunity for major players in the industry to learn from one another. We are very excited to bring the conference to this part of the world for the first time.”

Hostel owners, managers, trade associations, software providers, and social media organizations from around the world will have the opportunity to network and discuss interesting and relevant matters related to the hostel industry. Presentations will include discussions on innovative technologies and how to best leverage them, hostel events & activities as means of increasing income for your hostel, engaging responsible tourism in hostels, “Next generation” hostels: Rebranding the hostel industry, best practices to improve hostel operations, trends in online travel and how they impact the hostel industry, updates on the hostel scene from around the world from various hostel owners and managers, and the status of regulatory
oversight of hostels.

Co‐organizing this year`s World Hostel Conference is the two‐year old Abraham Hostel Jerusalem. “We are honoured and excited to host the WHC in Israel this fall. It is another significant step in turning Israel and the Middle East to a major destination for backpackers & independent travelers from all around the world,” said Yaron Burgin, co‐owner of Abraham Hostels.

Sponsors of the 2012 WHC include ASSD Software, Guest Centrix Hospitality Software, Sandeman’s New Europe, Hostelbench, HostelManagement.com, Tourist Israel, and ILH ‐ Israel Hostels.

Launched over ten years ago, the World Hostel Conference is organized annually by GoMio.com, with the help of various local partners each year. The last two conferences were held in North America.
